ALEX MIGHT BE DODGING SIR ALAN BUT IS HE ACTUALLY ANY GOOD?

Friday May 16,2008

Alex might be dodging Sir Alan but is he actually any good?

How has Alex avoided getting fired?

WHAT does it take to be a successful Apprentice contestant?

How do you escape being fired once in the dreaded boardroom?

These are questions that should probably be directed at regional sales manager Alex Wotherspoon who despite being on the losing team a worrying six times has managed to escape being fired.

Whether we can see it or not he's obviously doing something right.

Described by 25-year-old Sara Dhada, who was given her matching orders on Wednesday, as "a bit slimy" it appears the spiky-haired boy-band lookalike has survived by charming his way out of difficult situations.

Or at least trying to.

His dismal success rate in the tasks was eventually pulled up by Sir Alan but despite this black mark against his name Alex was still not included in the final show down which ended in Sara's exit.

Surely being in the losing team on so many occasions can't be a coincidence?

In his blurb on the show's website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/apprentice) it reveals that he "reckons that he could win The Apprentice because of his tenacity and communication skills."

WIth his ability to narrowly miss being in the firing line again and again I fear that Alex is a likely candidate to make it the final.

But I struggle to see what he actually has done to stay in the competition. Alex can no doubt talk the talk but he never puts himself out on a limb.

In the recent wedding task where the two teams had to present goods to flog at the National Wedding Show at the Birmingham NEC he was careful to avoid being part of the ill-fated decision to go with the mid price coloured dresses.

He did, however, push himself to the forefront when it came to selling but it seemed like he only did that because he was shrewd enough to know that that was where the glory would be.

I may have jumped up and down with glee at the two Jenny's being booted off but at least they took a few risks and put themselves into the firing line.

Maybe Alex is just very good at playing the game and that's why he's still in with a chance of winning the £100,000.

However this is definitely at the expense of making good viewing.

Alex, quite frankly I think you can do better.
