Steve Wright sadly died at the age of 69 as tributes have poured in for the legendary broadcaster.

Locals living near the DJ's £2million flat, where he was found dead on Monday morning, said he had "completely shutdown" after the pandemic.

According to neighbours Steve had become "withdrawn" and rarely drank out in the area.

They told The Sun: “After the pandemic he completely shut down. He stopped drinking in the area, he stopped going out.

“He was a different person, even before his radio show ended. He was extremely withdrawn.”

They claimed Cyndi Robinson's sudden death in July 2020 deeply impacted the broadcaster who is said to have maintained a good relationship with her despite their separation.

Steve proposed to Cyndi on air not long after they met but the couple divorced "out of the blue" in 1999 after 27 years of marriage. They had two children together - Lucy and Tom.

His son has opened up about his dad's sudden death and had returned to the UK from Los Angeles to care for his dad a few days before emergency services found him. Breaking his silence in a social media post, he shared: "It meant the world to me that I was able to get to know my Dad in a way I never had in the months before he died."

Steve's friend of 40 years, publicist Gary Farrow, said he believes Wright "died from a broken heart" after he was "devastated" to lose his popular Radio 2 afternoon slot in 2022.

Steve's family announced his death in a heartfelt statement, which said: "It is with deep sorrow and profound regret that we announce the passing of our beloved Steve Wright. In addition to his son, Tom, and daughter, Lucy, Steve leaves behind his brother Laurence and his father Richard.

"Also, much-loved close friends and colleagues, and millions of devoted radio listeners who had the good fortune and great pleasure of allowing Steve into their daily lives as one of the UK's most enduring and popular radio personalities."

The radio personality presented programmes for BBC Radio 1 and Radio 2 for more than four decades before his death aged 69.

Emergency services rushed to the star's home in Marylebone, central London, just after 10am on February 12, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
