Adele has been forced to postpone the next month of her Las Vegas shows after illness "took a toll" on her voice.

The singer, famous for hits like Somebody Like You, told fans a few days ago that she was put on vocal rest after being unwell affected her voice.

Now it seems she needs more than just a short break, as "doctors orders" mean she has to delay her shows next month.

She posted an update on Instagram to tell her eager fans the sad news.

"Sadly I have to take a beat and pause my Vegas residency," she wrote.

"I was sick at the end of the last leg and all the way through my break," Adele continued.

"I hadn't quite gotten the chance to get back to full health before shows resumed and now I'm sick again, and unfortunately it's taken a toll on my voice.

"And so on Doctors orders I have no choice but to rest thoroughly. The remaining 5 weekends of this leg are being postponed to a later date."

Sharing more details with fans, the Hello singer added: "We are already working out the details and you will be sent the information asap.

"The postponed dates are 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 29 and 30 March."

She captioned her post: "I love you, I'll miss you like mad and I'm sorry for the inconvenience x."

Adele, during her weekend residency performance, confessed to having voice troubles and likened herself to Ursula from Disney's The Little Mermaid.

The superstar singer, who underwent throat surgery for polyps in 2011 and has had vocal cord issues before, told her audience at The Coliseum: "In the middle of last night - I'm sure you can hear it in my talking voice and my singing voice a little bit.

"Your girl was tired. I didn't sleep very well..."

She further explained: "And Ursula from the ocean has come from my chest tonight. I can't hit my headnotes properly. I didn't sleep very well and my chest is on fire."

Adele also revealed plans for voice rest after the show: "Straight after this show I am going on voice rest.

"Can you imagine how hard now me not talking for three days is? So I'm going to be in bed coughing my guts up on complete voice rest."

Apart from the ten shows she postponed, Adele has ten more performances scheduled until June as part of her Vegas residency. Once her stint in Vegas concludes, she'll jet off to Munich, Germany, to kick off a series of ten stadium concerts.
