ITV The 1% Club fans heartbroken as memorable contestant tragically dies after filming

The 1% Club viewers were saddened to hear that a well-liked contestant had sadly died prior to the latest episode of the ITV show being broadcast.

Fans of have been left devastated after a contestant from the show was revealed to have after filming took place.

The popular Saturday night quiz show, hosted by , sees the host chat with some of the programme's 100 contestants as they attempt to bag a potentially life-changing £100,000 prize.

Players hoping to win big often come in with exciting anecdotes at the ready, and one contestant's conversation with Lee proved to be particularly memorable.

Viewers were subsequently shocked to discover that likeable player Steven Wong, 52, had sadly died earlier this year.

Steven, who could be seen speaking to Lee in the latest edition of the show, tragically died before his episode of the quiz show had been broadcast.

A message at the end of the episode confirmed the sad news of Steven's death, paying tribute to him.

The statement read: "In memory of Steven Wong. 1972-2024."

Steven made a real impact on viewers thanks to his stories of almost getting picked for a huge film when he was a child.

Lee was left gasping as the contestant revealed he had been the second choice for a role in hit action movie, Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom.

His co-stars were left gobsmacked as he shared his connection to the massive movie franchise, remembering how his parents had taken him to the auditions when he was a kid.

He said: "I didn't realise this but apparently we got down to the final two and it was me and another kid.

"Don't forget this was only when I was about 10!"

Following the announcement of Steven's death, heartbroken fans took to social media to share their condolences.

Taking to X, the social media platform formerly known as , one person wrote: "RIP Steven Wong."
Another fan penned: "Very sad to hear about Steven Wong Thoughts are with his family."
