Kate Garraway reveals steamy two-week sex challenge ended in A&E: 'He needed a wheelchair'

The 49-year-old star embarked on the explicit challenge - which saw her and husband Derek Draper have sex once a day for 14 days - in a bid to spice up their marriage.

"I was intrigued. When you've been with someone for a very long time, even though you still love them and fancy them, you may not be making space for the act of love," the TV presenter said of her decision.

However, despite Derek even going as far as to pencil in times they could have intercourse on a spreadsheet, it seemed nothing could have prepared him for what happened eight days in to the challenge. 

On his way back to the couple's home, the 49-year-old author slipped over and wound up needing a wheelchair.

Writing in her book, The Joy of Big Knickers, Kate recalled: "He emerged from A&E with his leg in plaster, a wheelchair and instructions 'not to put any pressure on the foot at all, possibly for as long as three months' - never mind swinging from chandeliers."

While his incident meant it was difficult for the couple to have sex daily, Kate revealed that they became intimate in a different way.

She explained: "Instead of lovemaking, I would sit and chat with Derek instead, and look after him, which was lovely in itself

Meanwhile, the radio host previously dished that their raunchy stint had some other tribulations, revealing that their son walked in on one steamy session, while another saw her hair get tangled in her bra.

Nevertheless, Kate seemed to find the whole thing a positive experience, telling the Mail on Sunday: "I found I was really enjoying myself. It was an adventure."

She added: "Even planning it and trying to make it work seemed to make us giggle."
