Lee Anderson is no Islamophobe - he speaks for millions of us

While his language was clumsy, Carole Malone says Lee Anderson spoke for all those angry, frustrated and frightened by hateful Islamists extremism

Outspoken MP Lee Anderson caused uproar when he said London’s mayor, Sadiq Khan, was being controlled by Islamists and that he’d “given our capital city away to his mates”.

That clearly isn’t true, which is why Anderson has had the Tory whip suspended.

But the ex-Nottingham miner is sticking by his guns and refuses to apologise to Khan “not as long as there’s breath in my body”.

"It would be a sign of weakness to apologise when you know you’re right."

Anderson has also been accused by Hard Lefties and many in the Westminster bubble of being Islamophobic which also isn’t true.

OK, cards on the table I think his language in his original comments was clumsy and extreme. Even he admits that now. But I totally agree with his claims that Khan and the police have lost control of our once great capital city.

We can see it with our own eyes.

And we cannot believe it when we see the cops and Khan – London’s police and crime commissioner - standing by doing nothing while racist outrages are perpetrated under their noses.

And I’m not alone in agreeing with Anderson’s sentiments that pro-Palestinian demonstrators are being allowed to spread hate on our streets unhindered.

How can I be when we’ve all seen cops standing by doing nothing last week while Islamist activists lit up the house of parliament with the vile line “From the River to the Sea“, a geocidal death call for the state of Israel to be destroyed?

We’ve seen Parliamentary procedure interfered with because Speaker Lindsay Hoyle believed that our MPs were under serious threats from Islamist activists.

Week after week, we see militant Islamists parade through our streets chanting “Death to the Jews” and absolutely nothing is done to stop them.

Last week after the Parliament incident, the Met’s weasly police chief, Mark Rowley, said protestors couldn’t be arrested or charged because no crime had been committed.

Seriously???

How can that be when the law surrounding hate crime is clear - a hate crime is anything a reasonable person believes to be motivated by hatred of a particular individual or group.

So chanting “Death to Jews“ isn’t a hate crime? Projecting a line from a genocidal death chant that calls for the annihilation of the world’s only Jewish state isn’t a hate crime? Harassing and threatening MPs outside their own homes isn’t a crime?

The police and Khan and even this Government have put up with these blatant and vile displays of racism from protestors for too long. And why? Is it for fear of upsetting Muslims? For aggravating religious tensions? Well enough.

I’m sure the good and decent Muslims in this country - which are the majority - will hate this bully boy's behaviour every bit as much as the rest of us. And that’s why people are firmly on the side of Lee Anderson who speaks for millions of angry, frustrated, frightened people.

It feels like as a country we’re sleepwalking into something that will soon be unstoppable and out of control.

While Anderson was wrong to say Khan and Starmer are “controlled” by Islamists, it’s undeniable that both are very dependent on the Muslim vote to keep their jobs. Look at the way Starmer was running around last week over the party’s Gaza motion terrified he was going to upset his core voters. He knows he’s lost Muslim support because of his previous stance on Gaza and he wanted to fix that.

And while we’re on the subject of Khan, he's on record as saying "words are really important". So then, why hasn’t he been loudly denouncing those Islamists who are terrifying Jews in London – and everywhere else?

He was quick enough to denounce Lee Anderson's comments and accused him of adding flames to the fire of anti-Muslim hate.

What does he think about those protestors who with their aggression, their vile chants and their intimidatory tactics have without doubt fanned the flames of anti-semitic hatred?

So much so that since Oct 7, antisemitic “incidents” have rocketed by 1,353% as opposed to Muslim hate crimes which have gone up by 335% (according to Tell Mama, the project which monitors anti-muslim incidents in the UK).

While it is in no way a competition, these figures at least give some perspective to Khan’s idea that this upsurge in racism is one-sided against Muslims.

What Anderson has voiced here isn’t Islamophobic, he’s simply saying that Islamist militants and the Far Left have gone a million miles beyond what is right or decent or legal in their support of Palestine/ Hamas.

Yes, many of those militants DO support this terror group which on October 7 marched into Israel and murdered, raped and maimed men, women and children.

In fact just two weeks ago, TV cameras filmed people from the mob here attacking a man who dared to proclaim on his banner an actual truth – that Hamas ARE terrorists.

This Government has recently had to give more than £3m to a group called The Community Security Trust to help protect Jews in their communities. How can that be in Britain 2024?

Jewish people shouldn’t need protecting but the ugly truth is that they do. Has Khan spoken out about that?

Yes, he speaks generally about how no kind of extremism is acceptable. But have you heard him speak out specifically and regularly about anti-Semitism the way he has spoken out this week about anti-Muslim hatred?

But think about it – why is Labour really going apoplectic over Lee Anderson’s comments? Why are MPs racing onto the telly, onto social media to slate him as an Islamaphobe?

I’ll tell you why – it’s a typical distraction tactic to divert attention away from their own, very real problems over Gaza and the turmoil over it inside the Party.

Throwing brickbats at Anderson momentarily takes the heat off them, however the issue of Islamist extremism is not going away. It’s a real and growing problem and people who say so must not be slated as Islamaphobes.

Our democratic process is being threatened as are individuals and both have to stop.

If, as the Met Police say these marches are interfering with the keeping of law and order in our capital city - then stop them immediately. No discussion.

The point of those pro-Palestinian marchers has been made week after week (not that anyone in this Government or this country can do a damn thing about what’s happening in Gaza)

Yes, they’ll scream it’s their democratic right to protest. Well, it is people’s democratic right to be a Jew in Britain without being harassed or abused for it. It’s people’s right to walk the streets without fear.

The whole point of democracy here is that its being eroded not by the right to march, but by what many on those marches are chanting which is why they have to be stopped. Extremists are challenging the democratic operation of our parliament.

But of course the Met Police won’t stop them - because quite simply they know they can’t.

We have a police force totally incapable of stopping or controlling people who threaten us either physically or with words.

And if you’re not terrified by that – you should be!!!!
