Welfare only for the needy

At the end of WW2 when the troops came home there was a genuine attempt by politicians to alleviate poverty and suffering. That was when they created the Welfare state and the NHS.

Little did they know what monsters they were creating. Today they consume a massive ₤300 billion annually, which is over half of the country’s budget. This cannot be right, particularly when you consider the Armed Forces budget is just 30 billion in comparison, one tenth of the Welfare and NHS budgets.

Also since immigrants take a disproportionate amount of welfare and NHS it is clear that we give more financial support to immigrants than we give to the Armed Forces, which is a disgraceful situation. Both Labour and Conservatives are to blame for this, by their neglect over many years.

Immigrants are actually informed in how to take money from our welfare system when they come here and they’re given everything they need. Name one African, Middle Eastern or Asian country that would give a British citizen one penny in assistance if needed.

Take responsibility away from a person and that person becomes irresponsible. This is what has happened in our country on a grand scale. The millions of unemployable drunken idiots that live on benefits, and the young girls mentioned in this article are testimony to this. Abuse of the Welfare system and the NHS is rife.

Now the politicians have boxed themselves into a corner. Any party that now tries to reform this disgraceful mess will make themselves unpopular with the electorate since most of the electorate are either unemployed and on benefits, or employed and on benefits. The irony is also that those that are in employment are actually paying their own benefits.

Welfare should be a last resort. Responsibility for oneself must be restored, and welfare should only go to British citizens.

Much tougher criteria has to be applied to welfare payments, but what politician has the courage to face political suicide and do what he knows is right?
