Muslim First or European First

400 years ago Catholics were regarded as dangerous subversives whose aliegence was to a foreign power. Eventually Catholics and Protestents reached an agreement - it was OK to be Catholic provided they were British first. Of course not everyone accepts that, but anyone wanting to be an MP, magistrate, police officer, soldier, etc, has to swear an oath putting King and Country in front of religion.

The big question facing Muslims is are they British (or European) first, or are they Muslims who happen to be living in a particular area?
