Its not just numbers.

Successive studies have also shown that capital punishment being available as a final measure also deters criminals and yobs to commit murder in the first place. This deterrent is particularly effective on muggers and street criminals. For every innocent who is mistakenly executed, 8 to 10 totally innocent people are not murdered each year. This study was done at Columbia University - a Liberal Arts University. Looking at this by numbers alone, capital punishment should be considered.

Howver, capital punishment is just too controversial – debating this forever is a waste of time and parliamentary time. I would much rather go towards a society which rewards hard work and good behaviour, and penalises the lazy and criminal. This by itself will significantly reduce crime, and bring forward a good society that we are proud to call our own.
