In a few words: "Let us dare to read, think, speak and write" (the inspiring words of John Adams, 2nd President of the United States). I am inspired.

How on earth did Burrell justify, rationalize, lying and now not correcting things with the court? Exile is a terrible price to pay.

Published: Sunday March 9,2008 by Rothaymere

Why did he think it was necessary to lie? Red herrings about what? It is baffling to understand anyone who thinks he has good reason to risk perjury and its consequences. To protect Diana? Surely that was too late. No one can deny that this Inquest has produced chapter and verse and line by line of everything to do with Diana, the tragedies in her life and the ultimate tragedy. Lying was like closing the stable door after the horse had got out. Everything has come out in these proceeedings. Perjury is bad enough. Joking about it is the ultimate insult to a judge and his court. Adding insult to injury by announcing to the world that he was not going to return to court as ordered - the judge be damned - has only compounded his problems. He is staring exile in the face.

Exile is a terrible prospect. It is one thing to decide to live in another country, by choice, by preference; it is quite another to be forced to do so. Most who choose to live abroad return "home" from time to time, visit the "old country," visit family and friends. Exile precludes that. Especially if one faces arrest on doing so. What a mess Burrell has concocted for himself.

This should surely be a lesson to those who drink to the point of not realizing what they are doing. Although I doubt it will be. That's the way of things when you think you are invincible. But invincible or not, exile will be Burrell's fate if he insists on believing in his invincibility - and exception to the law, in the UK or the USA.
