Elected dictatorship

Having been a civiil servant at the Home Office for 30 years I know only too well the extent of the govt's deceit over immigration. They are exceptionally clever at this - eg introducing "tough" legislation and rules and then deliberately denying the immigration service the resources necessary to be effective; and/or by encouraging the legal profession to consistently challenge enforcement decisions. Brown (and Straw) are not the agents of the British people but the agents of those to whom they are indebted. It would be interesting to know how many of the business interests who have benefitted from cheap foreign labour are donors to New Labour. This democratic deficit; this cancer running through British society, is far more toxic than sub-prime mortgages.
