There is a reason why

Ah yes, the sneaking out bit. There's a good reason for that. It only defies logic until you understand what they're doing.

They could always just go to the nearest police station and soon find themselves on a flight back home - but back home isn't where they want to be (which is where those caught on the way out will soon find themselves heh heh).

If they succeed in sneaking out, they can then make their way to Spain, South of France, Southern Italy, Greece - all with climates far more to their liking than ours. But to do that they have to sneak out otherwise it's back to where they came from.

Oh - and of course there's the "perfect crime" reason.

Enter the country illegally (ie no one knows they're here - by definition), steal money, rape, then sneak back out again and go live in Spain. Perfect crime - they were never here.

Just something worth taking into consideration. Hope all those caught are thoroughly investigated for possible crimes before being deported back to where they don't want to go.

There is sense behind detaining them when caught on their way out.
