Have you ever tried to ask a teacher what level your child should be on for their age, I have on many occasion, and I have just been given a blank stare as if I was mad for asking such a question, if they won't tell you what level your child should be at, how the hell are you supposed to know. In my opinion teachers don't give a damn, they teach the kids parrot fashion and couldn't tell you if your child was bright or dumb, they don't care their in it for the money, as we all know with the recent strike.
How did I get around finding out what level my child should be on, I'll tell you how, with private tutors, that's how, it cost a fortune but it was the only way I could satisfy myself that my child was being prepared properly for his future life. Most of my friends were forced into the same choice, it was costly, I really feel for the parents who cannot afford this and rely on the state system to get them through, this will never happen if your child like mine was in a state school with a large percentage of children who did not speak adequate English. My own state education was second to none, but we had discipline and everyone spoke English.
As a test ask your childrens teachers if they can recommend any text/books reading/books,
maths/ books that would help your child advance further than what they are teaching, you won't get a response I never did. Inner city education is not fit for purpose.
