the difference is

your opinions (even the bigoted ones) when kept to yourself are fine and dandy.

when you try to spread bigoted opiniuons in the public domain, they are open to being challenged by facts, morals, and logic. where they inevitably are shown for what they are.
dangerous nonsense.

you have a right to believe dangerous nonsense on your own. you do not have the right to spread it in the public domain where it has the potential to hurt other people.
