In a few words:

so if the tories were so great

Published: Wednesday May 14,2008 by crayfishbanker

why did they get booted out of office in 97? and why, up until recently, have they been doing so poorly?

see, common sense would suggest that people remember how crap life was in the eighties and early nineties under the tories, and didn't want them back.

but i'm sure you can come up with some complicated spin which suggests that, actually life was great in the 1980's, and people just found life under the tories 'too good' to deal with so they decided to vote in labour...

after all, it's not as though the period between 1980 and 1995 saw many riots break out around the country...

it's not like it was a time that saw a vast increase in differences between the conditions of the rich and poor...

it's not like the nhs, the utilities and the railways were all dismantled during that time...

it's not like the policies of the tories ushered in the era of globalisation and started the destruction of national british industries like steel, coal, and car manufacturing.

it's not like we were haunted by the spectre of terrorism, and far more incidents of terrorism than we have now...

wow, life was so good back then!
the good ol' days...
