GIVE US A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD WITH MAINLAND EUROPE
Published: Wednesday June 4,2008 by Peter_Pan
If foreign lorries can fill up with cheap fuel in Calais and drive over here without paying for a driving licence or vehicle excise duty then they are at an unfair advantage with our hauliers. Brown's tax policy encourgages them to spend as much as possible in France (which only lines the French petrol station's profits and ensures that the tax payment goes to the French rather than us). That policy is plain stupid and anti-British. What we need to do is ensure that there is NO advantage in filling-up in France; that foreign drivers pay us a fair rate for a non-resident driving licence and that they also pay us for a temporary permit to drive their heavy vehicles on our roads. These foreign drivers should contribute to our economy if they want to drive on our roads, not bleed us dry.
