the subtle name changing tells the story

In the 1970s we thought of it as the common market.
Then it was called the EEC or European Economic community. The name still implied this was something to do with trading although laws were being past and treaties written that most of us didnt understand.
The suddenley I hear the name EC or European community. They have dropped the "economic"
And now the final transition to the E U or European Union. Sounds a bit like "Soviet union"
This will happen next year.
Even though Ireland has voted "NO"
And many other European countries would probably vote "NO" if given the chance.
The European leaders are like bull terriers at the leg. They will not let go. They will find every which way to ratify the treaty and the populations of Europe may find themselves repenting at leisure.
