moths have always come and gone with the weather

Dont worry they will be back.
Of course the birds will suffer if that is all they eat.
Dont worry the birds will adapt and come back.
We have seasons where we are awash with ladybirds, or tipulidae ( crane flies or daddy long legs ) and sometimes lots of moths as in 2006 when the summer was much drier and quite hot at times.
