DECLINE OF THE LABOUR PARTY

Published: Wednesday June 25,2008 by Peter_Pan

We are currently witnessing a dramatic decline in the fortunes of the Labour Party.

This reminds me of the demise of the Liberal Party in the early 20th Century. In 1906, the Liberal Party achieved its best ever (and last ever) electoral victory. Four years later the doomed Liberal Government had turned to the Labour Party and Irish Nationalists for support. The Liberals never returned to government.

In the early 21st century everyone has lost confidence in the incompetent Labour government. It is relying on the Ulster Unionists to get its legislation through, its MP's are in revolt, its donors are refusing to part with any more cash and it is going bankrupt. The Labour party will never be returned to government.

History is repeating itself.
