Re: Can someone please tell me just one good thing that New Labour has done for this country?

Published: Friday July 25,2008 by back_to_basics

I’ve got a list; it keeps growing…

Corruption and sleaze (ongoing and ever present)
Private Finance Initiative
A surveillance society - eg: speed cameras
Council surveillance laws
The largest DNA database in Europe
Ward closures; hospital closures
The NHS two tier system
Inconsistent healthcare (lottery postcode – need something for Alzheimer’s? Depends where you live.)
Literal lottery places for schools
Affirmative action – ie positive discrimination
Unemployed British doctors, nurses, teachers
Expanded welfare state (a dependency culture – is it 5 million on welfare?)
Numerous new quangos
Numerous new laws
70% of the population officially “marginalized” (including women!)
Rising crime
Bureaucracy in the police force
Incompetent policing
Overcrowded prisons
Lenient criminal sentences
England - now the most overcrowded country in Europe
Shrinking greenbelt land (is it the equivalent of 300 football-pitches gone since NuLab came to power?!)
Heavy-handed application of the Human Rights laws
Higher taxes – community tax up approx 50% (?) since 1997
Stealth taxes hand-in-hand with declining standards (rubbish collections and cars being the most obvious examples)
Abolition of the 10p tax-band
Pension raids
Gold - sold
Political Correctness (gone mad)
Health & Safety (gone mad)
Ill-timed advice:- "Let them eat leftovers" (quote from one of the DE columnists re: GB's solution to rising prices.

And still to come from Labour… (if we’re very, very good…)

Folic acid in bread & flour (health concerns expressed and ignored??)
Fluoride in water (ditto??)
Compulsory ID cards
Biometric testing
Presumed consent for organ-donation
Terror checks
Proposed smoking permits (but 24/7 boozing gets the thumbs up?)
The ‘suggested’ oath of allegiance
Eco Towns (will they be Eco?)
Super Polyclinics

I have got links for all of these, but links aren't allowed any more.
