In a few words:

fury over oil giants' profits

Published: Wednesday July 30,2008 by mike1951

If what the is being said that the profiteering oil companies should fund a reduction of the petrol prices in the UK, for example 95% of crude oil and gas is extracted in places like Nigeria, Middle East, Indonesia, this is where the oil company makes the bulk of its profits, these profits originate from exploration and extraction, how can they make a cut of 35 pence per liter when their profit is 12 pence of the retail price to the filling stations?
If the British goverment penalises these companys they could move to other locatiions where they could reduce thier taxes.
with the loss of employment and revenue in the UK.
With out these large profits from exploration the oil companies would not have the funds to finance further exploration.
I am at present working on a project which has cost in the region of 1 billion pounds from its inception to completion.
remember the cost of exploration is increasing as the oil and gas is found in some of the most hostile places on earth.
Do not blame the people who invest vast sums of money into projects which could yeald a loss rather than a profit, for whanting high returns on thier investments.
Rather blame a goverment that has squandered our wealth over the past ten years, the same people who demand 64 pence tax on every liter of petrol and diesel.
The same goverment that could make energy free from VAT, these are the people who you should show your anger to.
