Cathedral puts ban on Jerusalem

One of the most popular hymns in the country has been banned from a memorial service for its lack of religious content.

THOU SHALT NOT BE POLITICALLY INCORRECT

11.04.08, 10:10am

The politically correct Church of England - and the Roman Catholics are just as bad - hate JERUSALEM. It has all the wrong things: it has wonderful words; it has a great melody; it refers to England; it refers to the Lamb of God; it refers to chariots and swords; it is about strong Christianity; most of all, the people of England love singing it.

CATHEDRAL PUTS BAN ON JERUSALEM

11.04.08, 9:03am

Dont know why he doesnt go the whole hog and ban God and Jesus Christ.

Then they could ask the flock to simply worship the Pomp, Ceremony and Glitter of the Church itself.

NO PLACE FOR PATRIOTISM EITHER

10.04.08, 11:24pm

Quote: "It's a good piece of music and it's a very patriotic hymn, if you can call it a hymn. "

Well, there ya go then. No place for patriotism in a multi-culti, mongrel nation like Britain.

FALSE RELIGION

10.04.08, 7:28pm

Smacks of hypocracy this, when Easter and C hristmas, which the Church of England celebrates, has absolutely nothing to do with Christ either. They were actually Anglo Saxon/ pagan festivals which were adopted by the traditional Christian church in the 4th century. There's many things that both the Cof E and the Catholic church have deceived their followers over, so this is nowt new.

JERUSALEM

10.04.08, 1:47pm

with people like this in charge there is no wonder that people do not go to church. This is one of the most popular hymns and I bet every one at least knows the tu ne if not the words. It does have religious connotations- it does refer to Jesus= one could say the same of another extremely popular hymn- I vow to thee my country.

WHY DO THESE MEN

10.04.08, 11:56am

take their wages for alledgedly being Ministers in a Christian church when they so dislike they own religion. He is another biting the hand that feeds him. If he doesn't appreciate his own religion, he should leave.

I'm with Disgruntled on this.

I also sang Jerusalam in school assembly, and the pride for England (I'm English so that isn't being racist) that the hymn brings out, can still be felt to this very day.

When I hear Jerusalem, it brings tears to my eyes. It is a wonderful hymn - as are many others that our schoolchildren are not learning because of other religions.

It is hardly surprising there are no morals in the country anymore, because no morals are being taught at school - the 10 commandments for instance.

This man is another 'man of the cloth' who obviously doesn't want his job. He is obviously swayed by the PC brigade.

Sorry, but in the case of religion, PC should not be allowed.

Can anyone see Islam being influenced by political correctness??

I think Hell would freeze over before THAT happens!

DON'T TELL ME!

10.04.08, 11:42am

Another Christian hymn has been banned because it may offend other religions... that's the truth isn't it? I am in my 60's and we had this hymn every week in our daily assemblies at school, and it was always sung with such feeling. No wonder people don't go to church any more.
