NOT 'ARF

23.05.08, 8:13am

In through the door and out through the chimney used to be a joke about a hospital I worked in that was near a crematorium. Well, it's more reality than joke these days in a number of hospitals.

MULTI SEX WARDS

22.05.08, 4:20pm

I would be very nervous about going into hospital because of the cleanliness factor and the the fact you may end up worse than when you went in with the dangerous bugs that we read so much about nowadays.
But one thing would definitely keep me out and that is having to go into a multi sex ward, where is the dignity, the privacy we all need,my husband would not let me sleep in another bedroom with a man in it,and I wouldn't want him sleeping in a bedroom with another woman,so why do they expect us to that in a hospital.

AFRAID TO GO TO HOSPITAL

22.05.08, 12:05pm

im already in one, leedsoncology, brand new £22mill building! been in 5 months for chemo.
i had a dr prescribe me some drugs at beg of one chemo, then half way through they had to postpone last part of it ,because of the drugs he given me,could have made me very ill.same as ever though ,they all close ranks, appanetly this "qualified dr" was covering me for all eventualitys, believe it or not a staff nurse picked it up..
we have had to make a fuss abt the cleaning, had to make a fuss to get the fridge lifted on to a table, the head of cleaning was horrified at the dirt under it..and im supposed to be under infection control.
the food in general is disgusting .as a vegie all they ever serve is "something " in a cheese sauce.cant have salt in the cooking put they dont mind my cholestrol going up,its not rocket science or expensive nowadays to cook decent vegie food.
the veg ,well i took pics of them,no nutrition left in them at all.
i had to ask for clean towels after 3 days,
ivd had meals missed, good job i have a hubby who could bring me food in.god help people who dont.
i had extra drugs given out to me or not enough ,im lucky i have a bit abt me.there are people who poss wouldnt know what should have been.
last week (i have a hickman line)my hubby was helping out of bed, when he went round the bed ,there was blood all over the floor, leaking out from one of the lines that hadnt been clamped.excuse was "it happens sometimes"there is no way these lines can come undone.
yes they have save my life (they think, dont give definates for fear of being sued
would i be afraid to go into hospital again.....damn right, not a cat in hells chance.i could go on for a while,.....

GO INTO HOSPITAL - IS IT A RISK? WILL YOU COME OUT IF YOU GO IN ?

19.05.08, 3:53am

I think a lot of the fear of hospitals is deeply rooted in the past. At one time the big phobia was Legionnaires Disease now it is MRSA and other such things. The causes are many and varied, to numerous to mention but they have one common factor, people. It is a job where one moment of carelessness can have catastrophic consequences or one deliberate act by someone can kill.

These occurrences are well documented and difficult to plan for, one individual can destroy the most carefully laid plans. I have a preference for a particular hospital and I feel much more secure when I attend there. The only criticism is that there are often more hospital workers than patients (or at least there seems to be) and they all seem to scuff their feet when they walk down corridors carrying the obligatory look at me I'm busy piece of paper in one hand ( Emails are good ) while theirs specs are on a string around their necks.

I believe that SOPHIA LOREN 2 (how old is she ? and who is Sophia Loren?) has suggested the possibility of spin being administered by the government. Any government that plays with this emotive subject will need treatment for badly burned fingers and will deserve a punch on the nose too.

I would like to think that what I have written is the near truth and not the result of some misguided belief that more jobs would stop these things from happening, job creation under these circumstance would be very serious. Generally I trust NHS workers so I don' t think that this would be true.

Generally privately run NHS Trusts are very well run until some idiot puts cash over the needs of patients or is it the other way round and publicly run trusts are at fault ? If a cure for the MRSA bug has been found it will be a good thing until some financial nutter decides it is to expensive to use.

FOOTNOTE:

It is difficult to write a comment if your English is poor and you spelling not good, so why not use the spell checker on the toolbar. It is a tick followed by the word check and it is very useful.

WELL HOPEFULLY

18.05.08, 11:37pm

MRSA can be cured.
I heard on the news today that they have found a drug to beat it, if its just spin i do not know.
Plus some people carry the bug ,in their nose for example, and they are now going to test people for the bug before they employ them, let us hope that this is true and not more spin.

LACK OF TRANSPARENCY

18.05.08, 8:19pm

I work in a care home where one of the residents was admitted to hospital..... where he contracted C difficil. Although lab samples were taken to check for this, he was discharged before the results were checked. The hospital failed to contact us despite the fact that staff and other residents were put at risk. The GP was called out and he arranged for re-admission to hospital...... to find that they had been aware of the resident's condition for a week without notifying us.

It seems to be policy to never openly admit to cases of MRSA infections unless forced to do so.

HOSPITALS AND FEARS.

17.05.08, 8:22pm

It seems I did'nt clarify, Marigold. Did I say that ALL women are like that? You mention "culture". Why should we have an attitude that all females are efficient, totally up to the job and never act in a second rate way?. My wife is a first class woman, totally devoid of cheapness - so maybe you can see that I am not without a yardstick, apart from other aspects. If women are prepared to sacrifice true femininity in order to develop a large ego with which to strut their stuff in a country that does'nt appear to produce men with the depth to really understand what is going on, then it's sad. And will continue to produce the problems we have in hospitals, govt. departments, schools etc. where women abound by the million. Accountability is for ALL.

I did rather jump in didnt I .
But I stick to what I said.
Not all women are as you experienced.
And I am glad some of the care you received was good.
It seems respect has gone out if the window and maybe the reason you received special attention from Asians is that there still is respect in their society. I do acknowledge that and the fact that not everything about our culture is good.

HOSPITAL FEARS? NOT HALF.

17.05.08, 10:00am

I was waiting for "Marigold" to jump in. Both feet up to the neck. My dear girl, it was "women" who caused the aggro, who were dirty and incompetent on my ward. However much your highly sensitive ego flares up - the truth is as I wrote. BUT. The foreign women, particularly Asiatics were different again, they were warm and bright but above all efficient, a pleasure to be treated by. The same with the men, the attitude was first rate. If you are looking for the word "Ladies", simply as distinct from "Women", forget it. Political correcness is the last refuge of the coward. Gentlemen and ladies are a special breed of culture and education not applicable to the masses.
