THESE ARE NOT ROMANY!

25.05.08, 11:18am

The Minister who wants to place those currently referred to as 'Travellers' or 'Gypsies' would not by any chance be considering building a site near his home, would he? No, thought not. we will all be NIMBIES when the llocations are decided.
There are, in fact, very few real Romany people travelling the highways and byways of Britain nowadays. My grandmother was a Rom and I have a good idea what the life was like then. I also lived in a village as a child and young man, which was a regular point of call for genuine Romany travellers. They parked their REAL caravan homes upon a patch of waste ground and they left no mess behind when they moved - so that they would be tolerated when they came again. Today, all we have are people who do not want to pay the price of living in modern Britain. They do not want responsibility for their lives or those of their children. Instead, they would rather live like outcasts and become parasites upon the back of the rest of us, who pay their way in society.
These misfits must be made to realise that they need to live in our overcrowded island as we all do - with respect and tolerance for each other and each other's property, and paying their dues to society.

PROPERTY PRICES AND TRAVELLERS.

25.05.08, 10:19am

With our ludicrous house prices (caused by the banks) and high rental prices, why should we be surprised when so many people opt out of it all and live in a caravan.
40 years ago almost all houses were council houses, let at very low rents.
There were almost NO travellers then.

GYPSY'S 320M HOUSING BONANZA

25.05.08, 9:58am

Ireland has banned gypsy sites ,so where is the obvious place to go for a land that has no laws that need worrying about England If you so something there that could be illegal in no time you will be surrounded by people willing to cover up for you.

DON'T WANT TO CARP ON ABOUT IMMIGRATION BUT LET'S

25.05.08, 1:25am

Don't want to carp on about Immigration but let's face it the government are only too happy to spend taxpayers money to fund housing, benefits, etc for Immigrants not to mention on how some Immigrants have adopted and taken over whole areas making them a no go area. As long as the gypsy/traveller camps are kept clean and well maintained which most are I don't see the problem. If you was to look up the history on romany gypsies you will see many fought and lost their lives for this country during the war so that in my book has earned them the right to live a decent life in this country.

Unless you are a council employee and God knows there's an army of them, it isn't necessary to post your debatable grievances in triplicate, triplicate, triplicate!

PERMANENT TRAVELLERS?

25.05.08, 12:44am

The end is in sight. The average joe will soon become a monority and then perhaps we can have a slice of the pie - if there's any left.

COUNCILS DOING THERE JOB NOT

19.05.08, 6:58pm

I would also like ask if someone could answer me why when there are not enough gypsy sites around why is the council granting the few privitely own ones (like the one at tweksbury what has home 30 to 40 gypsys homes for the last 50 years)that they are being aloud to evict them meaning from june 30 to 40 gypsys who have lived on the site at tweksbury will have noware to go people of all ages homeless and nowere to go the only time anyone cares is when they want to move next to them

WHAT WILL THE POLITICOS DO?

19.05.08, 8:46am

This story just about sums up the contempt that politicians have for tax payers. The Nu Labour cretins have ruined this country but please don't believe Clown Cameron or Calamity Clegg when they say they will deal with problems like this. Parliament is a spent organisation that is a poodle of the E.U. and the stupid Human Rights act and none of the three major parties advocate leaving the E.U. or repealing the Human Rights Act.

GYPSIES

19.05.08, 8:34am

why should the ordinary hrd working taxpayer have to pay towards these camps. Thjese people are not true travellor becausethey want to settle in one place free of such things as council tax. They have been here and leave appalling messes which have to be cleared up at our expense. Next thing will be all the roma gyppsies who are really thuigs, and they will be taking over because the government is too soft. We should be loike italy and get rid.

PERMANENT HOME SITES.

19.05.08, 8:30am

Creating improved sites is no answer to the problem ,in fact probably it will make it worse. As soon as these sites are full it won't stop gypsies going on to other land and then do we make more improved sites for ever and ever.

TRAVELLERS

19.05.08, 3:44am

Since they insist they are travellers they should therefore not be allowed to stay more than 2 nights on any one site before being forced to move on. If they wish to live on one site permanently they are not travellers and so therefore must live in a house and pay all the bills associated with living in a permanent residence.
Also if they leave any rubbish on any site they should all be arrested and charged with flytipping and made to pay the full clean up costs. If they can fine a homeowner for putting the wrong kind of rubbish in a bin they can fine travellers for flytipping and littering otherwise councils could be considered biased against home owners and possible then open to being sued.
Before anyone says i am biased I am part romany on my mothers side and a true romany will not dump rubbish or leave a mess.
