ARTICLE SUMMARY

Are motorists taxed to the hilt?

DRIVERS face having to pay motorway tolls to beat congestion despite already forking out £45billion a year in taxes, it has emerged.

RE: TOLLS

01.09.08, 10:13pm

Bet they wont get rid of the road tax if they bring in tolls or lower fuel duty....another way of raking it in....again UK paying to use the roads 3X whereas other countries only once...!!

Tolls on the M8 e.g. would be a gold mine. Drivers have no other ways to go from Glasgow to Edinburgh or visa versa. they just wnt to use cogestion as cash cow. and how about satelite tracking? will they abandon road tax? No way.

"RUHE03 AND CHOMERLY"

Just a quicky!
"Global warming is harming our planet
and fossil fuels make this come true
by footprints of carbon from vehicles
even the ones that are new".
If curbing pollution will stop it
(the government say this is so)
then make a decisive decision
tell car makers were they can go!
But this is not what the great plan is,
big thirsty cars still are made
the idea`s to rake in some money
the warming won`t come if you`ve paid.
So gird up your` loins and accept it
All governments are raking it in
and Gordon along with the others
tell us, not to pay, is a sin.

BACK TO THE WOMAN IN THE PICTURE

26.07.08, 9:16am

She is looking behind with the driver's door open. Problem is, it is on a motorway at 70 mph.

MISTERRUFF AND CHOMERLY

24.07.08, 10:05pm

Thanks for the replies folks.

Misterruff i would continue the anti-global warming poetry if i were you, perhaps in time the populace will look back at a visionary.

Chomerley, as soon as the great Global Warming con was rused it became climate change. You can't win on the subject that the science has been sucked from and the tax £££££££s installed. This is Gordon's bail-out and he won't let it lie.

Did you catch the Guardian's front page today? Certainly food for though of how seriously Gordon actually takes climate change...

I DON'T GO ALONG WITH THIS "HEY MAN, SAVE THE WHALE" THEORY.

24.07.08, 11:03am

I don't believe that we are all doomed and the polar bears will die. 10,000 years ago we were all in an ice age and Mother Earth changes gradually and we adapt gradually. There was an article in the Daily Middle Cl**** which suggested that parts of Norfolk were being washed away because of global warming. What was was not written, was that due to longshore drift, the land is reclaiming the sea at other costal locations in the county. So, parts of Norfolk are losing land to the sea and some parts are gaining land.

The sea is not rising, it is washing away soft soil by natural erosion.

So, I say to all you motorists out there to continue driving, blow the environment, cars are getting cleaner, don't have any thoughts whatsoever that you are harming the planet with your cars. If every car was switched off in Britain tomorrow, it would not make one tiny bit of difference to the pollution of the world. This greenie propaganda that is being spouted about us wicked motorists is untrue. These duffel-coated, sandal wearing, bearded, NHS spectacle wearing, cycling fanatics; have got nothing better to do than persecute folk who enjoy the freedom of a motor car.

The car: you can't un-invent it!

RUHE03.

I do have to agree with you over the cow issue of pollution.
It's said that 1 Cow produces any from 25 - 130 gallons of methane per day and methane has 21 times more warming potential than CO2.
That's not to say that we should ignore the issue of global warming. I think it's something that we definitley need to address but at the same time i can't and will not accept the governments attitude of tax being the answer to the problem. Pratical and decisive action is what's needed. Perhaps that way the rest of the world will follow suit.

ROHE03 "IF WE DONT USE OUR BRAINS"

23.07.08, 12:38am

Just to add to your` message:- Before I wrote the poem "Slowly" I wrote one against global warming, it got nowhere, I did this in favour of global warming and----- got some recognition.
There are heavy forces at work when it comes to making money!

IF WE ALL DON'T USE OUR BRAINS...

22.07.08, 10:37pm

... then Gordon will forever have us over a barrel regarding climate change.

Planetary temperatures have been stable in the last ten years. The BBC recently carried (and recieved a lot of publicity for then trying to edit the story in favour of environMENTALISTS) a story predicting that temperatures will remain constant for at least the next decade.

A question for all those who swallowed the carbon footprint shi te, what temperature should the planet be then? What is the optimum ice-cap area per annum? I can guarantee you its not been constant for the last few billion years.

Do you people know how poor a greenhouse gas CO2 is? For fk's sake use your brains, do some research and see this environmental rubbish for what it is. Yet another avenue of tax and spend that Gordon can justify. He's bankrupted the country despite record tax receipts and he's desperate for any penny he can get his grubby mits on. How bad a polluter is car usage against industry, shipping and livestock? Are you going to close ever factory? Are you going to sink every ship? Kill every cow? I bet it didn't cross your minds, did it?

But then there are lions and there are sheep. Quite a few bleating on here by the look of it too.

MOTORWAY TOLLS

22.07.08, 5:02pm

If we all pay the tolls will the congestion not occur?
Or if only the ones who can afford it pay, will it be congested only with big `gas guzzling, carbon footprinting` rich persons vehicles?

TRISTRAM "WHILST ON THE SUBJECT OF FUEL"

22.07.08, 4:55pm

Of course we are reminded of `carbon footprint` `global warming` but you and I remember that diesel used to be cheaper than petrol, until more people started to buy diesel cars for their economy, what happens then? The tax goes up, once again, cash is more important than the planet!

Slowly our world will end for us
Not with a bang and not with a fuss!
Slowly the sea will reclaim the land
No more, we`ll see, a stretch of gold sand.
Slowly we burned fossil fuels for gain
Factory, engine, power station and train.
Slowly we moved to correct our excess,
Too late to change the results of success.
Slowly the ice will melt at the poles
Our fault because of those ozone holes!
Slowly the creatures on this earth of ours
Will cease to exist and so will the flowers.
Slowly the patches of brown seen from space
Will all turn to blue, a most beautiful place
