Crude review and trailer

HOW DOES David fight Goliath in an age of giant corporations with endless resources and a stubborn determination to escape responsibility for their actions?

That is the essence of Crude, a fascinating documentary on the lawsuit which was brought by 30,000 Ecuadoreans against the Chevron oil company.

Faced by polluted water, contaminated land, catastrophic environmental damage to the rainforest and a growing number of inexplicable cancers, the case seems overwhelming.

The reality is much more complicated and is captured in a well-balanced documentary all the more incisive for its decision to eschew editorialising and let the evidence speak for itself.

VERDICT 4/5

(Cert PG; 105 mins)
