TONIGHT: BBC2 RADIO 2 FOLK AWARDS

The old cliches about folk belonging to the "real ale brigade" seem more ridiculous than ever these days with so many young artists drawing inspiration from the traditional music of these isles.

Bellowhead, Lau and The Unthanks, all nominees tonight, are but three examples of young musicians that interpret folk in new and fascinating ways.

This evening's show is hosted by the ever-affable Mike Harding, who will introduce awards for Folk Singer Of The Year; Best Group; Album Of The Year; Best Original Song; Folk Club Of The Year and more.

The extraordinary Nanci Griffith and incomparable Dick Gaughan will both receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, and will perform along with plenty of other acts including Ade Edmonson And The Bad Shepherds.
