In December she will travel to South Africa for the Miss World contest. She is the fi rst black Miss England and is excited to be competing on the world stage.

If her name seems familiar it may be because former champion sprinter Linford Christie is her uncle. West London-born Rachel, 20, trains at the track named after him and is coached by his ex-trainer Ron Rodden. She hopes for Olympic success in her chosen distance, the 400m.

After her father was stabbed to death in a drugs war 12 years ago her mother has been her rock and it was she who encouraged her daughter to fight for her dreams. Rachel is also promoting the launch of Debenhams Sport And Leisure Department which offers clothes and equipment for all activities including gym, yoga, surfi ng and athletics as well as a full children’s range. “It is an amazing store and has specialist products for all types of sport,” says Rachel.

The departments are located in Debenhams stores nationwide. Customers spending more than £40 will receive a free personal training session at a local gym.

All clothes from Debenhams Sport And Leisure Department available in 40 UK branches. For store details call 08445 616 161 or visit debenhams.com
