The 59-year-old star donned a stylish white chiffon dress with a plunging neckline, lace shawl and silver jewellery – all perfectly in keeping with the Greek setting of the Abba-themed film Mamma Mia!.

The double Oscar-winner was joined on the red carpet by her co-stars Pierce Brosnan, above, and Colin Firth, as well as Abba’s Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus.

VIP guests at Wednesday’s premiere included actresses Jane Seymour, Lauren Bacall and Sigourney Weaver, and pop star Sting and wife Trudie Styler.

The movie has already raked in  more than £7.6million since opening in Britain last Friday.
