Gordon Brown: Betrayal

Saturday July 19,2008

By Martyn Brown

COWARDLY Gordon Brown sold Britain down the river when he secretly ratified the EU Treaty, a Daily Express poll confirms today.

An overwhelming 99 per cent of our readers felt cheated by the Prime Minister when he tamely surrendered sovereignty to Europe this week, our exclusive poll reveals.

Asked if Mr Brown had sold us down the river, they answered with a resounding “Yes”.

Thousands demanded that Labour give the country the referendum we were promised before the last general election.

It confirms that the Prime Minister has betrayed the very people he represents on an issue that could see Britain lose its sovereignty altogether.

Opponents fear the Lisbon Treaty it is a major step towards a European superstate that will eventually wipe out individual nations.

Critics still hope it can be destroyed. All 27 nations in the EU must ratify it for it to come into force.

The Irish people – who were given a referendum – have already rejected it. If their pro-treaty parties fail in attempts to persuade them to reverse their rejection, then the treaty will die.

So far 10 nations, including Britain, have formally ratified it. A further 12 are close to completing the process.
Eurosceptic tycoon Stuart Wheeler, who branded Mr Brown’s actions “disgraceful”, yesterday failed in a renewed court bid to force a referendum on the treaty.

Lord Justice Dyson said Parliament had decided against a referendum and it was not for the courts to interfere in the political process.

But Mr Wheeler, 73, who made his a multi-million pound fortune from spread-betting firm IG Index, said: “I think the moral case for what I was trying to do is absolutely intact.”

The treaty scraps national vetoes over EU decisions in dozens of policy areas. Some experts fear that Britain will even lose control over immigration and the criminal justice system.

And in a stark reminder of how our country’s power is fast diminishing, the European Commission has backed plans to give one billion euros (£800million) of unspent EU funds to farmers in Africa next year – despite opposition from Britain.

The money will be used to help tackle high food prices and boost output. But the decision could not come at a worse time for Britons also hit by high food prices by rocketing fuel costs.

Tory Euro MP for London Syed Kamall said last night: “At a time of rising prices and taxes, the EU should really return this money to hard-pressed taxpayers in its member states.

“However, if the member states agree to spend this money on aid, we should ensure that it is actually used for meaningful long-term development and not end up in the pockets of corrupt African politicians or officials.

“Furthermore, if the EU really wants to help African farmers then it should focus on abolishing subsidies and tariff barriers.”

Hugo Robinson of the Eurosceptic think-tank Open Europe said: “This amounts to redirecting farm subsidies towards dumping food aid in Africa. The commission seems to have made the decision that one billion euros can be spent on what it deems a worthy cause.”

The EU cash, made available largely as the result of underspending in the bloc’s massive agriculture budget, will be siphoned off by 2009. At least eight EU member countries, including Britain, Sweden and the Netherlands, have questioned the legality of the scheme.

EU ministers and the European Parliament, which has also voiced doubts about using unspent EU farm funds, will have to agree to the plan before it can come into force.

So far, for the 2008 farm budget, the EU has been heavily underspending on market support measures such as export subsidies, buying staple commodities and subsidising private storage, EU officials have revealed.

Agriculture eats up more than 40 per cent of the EU’s annual budget, which for 2008 is planned at 120.7 billion euros (£95billion).

GORDON BROWN MUST GO AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.............

21.07.08, 10:26am

Gordon Brown must go as soon as possible. When Tony Blair first came into power I really trusted him and believed that he had Britains best interest at heart now I realise that was a big mistake. Brown is worse as he is very weak and he could have at least have tried to put to right some of the things that Blair had done wrong. Brown like Blair constantly ignores the concerns of the people. Labour has let the British people down in all aspects of life.

We have uncontrolled immigration, some of the highest crime in the world. a legal system that seems to cater more for the criminal, the awful EU which is of no benefit to this country despite what the politicians say,the PC and human rights brigades which create more trouble, heartache, and strife than they solve and there is no end in sight because we the British people are just complaining without action.

We also have constant pandering to the muslim communies that too is causing animosity. The government should be doing more for integration by being fair to everyone. Here again the government do not listen but just carry on with their 'I'm alright Jack' attitude. I was reading about Dudley Muslim council wanting to build a mega mosque. Over 22,000 people signed a petition against it and so the building of the mosque got turned down by Dudley planning. Dudly muslim council then appealed to the Planning Directorate in Bristol who then gave their permission for the mosque to be built so in other words these 22,000 people who are probably tax and council tax payers do not count and it looks as if their lives mean nothing to the Planning Directorate. Who has the power to overturn what the planning directorate decide the government are useless, so who do the people of Dudley appeal to?

Get labour out ASAP we are going under fast.

BROWN THE BETRAYER

21.07.08, 6:23am

In 1940, there were high ranking politicians who wanted to sign a peace treaty with Hitler, and thank god for Churchill, we declined.
Now our modern politicians lead by Brown the betrayer, have finally capitulated to Europe. What Brown the Betrayer has done, is thrown away the last vestige of independent Britain.
In 1940, we had Churchill, who using common sense and courage save the day. We now need some brave men and women, who will take us out of Europe, and once again save our bacon. I hope Brown the betrayer feels proud of himself, the swine.

BROWN BETRAYING BRITAIN

20.07.08, 10:45am

Surely a promise given by a potential goverment in a manifesto is a verbal contract. The law courts are supposed to protect our rights not to be a lickspittle of the goverment.
