The duo are not expected to play against Fenerbahce in the Champions League tomorrow night after being forced off in Arsenals defeat at Stoke.

Walcott feared he had dislocated the same shoulder on which he had an operation. It was carried out to cure a hereditary condition that has left him with weak ligaments in his arm.

But, rather than a dislocation, his shoulder had gone into spasm and it appears the surgery has prevented him suffering a more serious injury.

The Gunners are assessing Walcott on a day-to-day basis, but he expects to be ready for the Emirates lunchtime clash against Manchester United.

Adebayor is not so confident after limping out of the Stoke game with an ankle problem, but defender Bacary Sagna, another who took a knock at Stoke, hopes to be fit to face both Fenerbahce and United.

Wenger has told his Arsenal side to stick to what they are good at.

His defenders were largely blamed for the defeat at Stoke, but Wenger feels his team must make the most of their ability to outscore the opposition.

“My biggest worry is that we did not create a lot,” said Wenger. “We are not used to playing without creating chances and that is very frustrating.

“Stoke scored on two throws and you never want that. But we could not express our strong side in the game, which is to create chances and get them out of position.”

Goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has suffered some nervy moments this season and Wenger is expected to try to sign another keeper in January.

Paris Saint-Germain stopper Mickael Landreau could be in the frame for £2.5million.
