Mark Stephen, a 43-year-old man, tipped the scales at 32 stone at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Since then, the former hospitality worker has completely transformed his physique by shedding half his body weight.

Following his decision to move to Nottinghamshire, and after investing over two years of hard graft, he now weighs just under 15 stone.

Stephen shared the remarkable tale of his transformation, explaining how the regime of regular exercise and healthy eating had been his silver bullet.

He revealed: "[Covid] happened and I needed something that I could control, and there was very little that I could control other than my weight and what I did with myself."

Stephen revealed he borrowed his neighbours' Shar Pei dog, Oscar, for outdoor walks, which played a significant part in his weight loss journey.

He said: "You were allowed to go out to exercise but not much else, so basically to get fresh air I used to borrow my neighbours' Shar Pei dog all the time to go for walks. If they hadn't let me take Oscar the journey would have taken a lot longer."

Mark then decided to incorporate other forms of exercise into his daily routine. He explained: "I [used] a dumbbell, about 11 kilos, and I did a lot of the various weight training [videos] on YouTube.

"I was eating the same meal every day, terribly boring, but I just used to mix it up with different spices and sauces so it wasn't just tuna and pasta, which made it nice and cheap as well."

After successfully maintaining his weight loss for two years, Mark found himself battling frustration over the excess skin he had developed.

In search of assistance, he reached out to various doctors and organisations, only to be informed by the NHS that they could not assist as it was deemed "a cosmetic procedure".

Mark expressed his disappointment, feeling as though he had done "all the hard work" only for them to "move the goals", yet he resolved to live with the situation.

Tragically, Mark's father passed away in March 2023, profoundly impacting his perspective on life. Reflecting on the loss, he shared: "My dad passing away has put a few things in focus for me."

His father's passing was the catalyst for him to consider financing surgery to get rid of the excess skin, which he believes will improve his self esteem.

When questioned about the impact of the potential surgery, he shared: "It would literally be life changing, and I've done all the hard work and put in all the hard effort. It would be amazing."
