With Spring around the corner, more people are looking to get their outdoor spaces looking top notch.

Thankfully, sparkling streak-free windows don’t have to come with a hefty price tag or require an arsenal of cleaning gadgets.

Melissa Caverly, the founder of Imagine Maids, advocates for a simple yet effective solution that may already be lurking in your home, newspapers.

According to Caverly, newspapers offer an affordable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional window-cleaning methods, delivering impressive results without the need for expensive cleaning products.

The technique is straightforward, start by applying a standard window cleaner to the glass surface, then use a sheet of newspaper to wipe away the solution in circular motions.

The lint-free and absorbent texture of newspapers ensures a streak-free shine, a favourite among both professional cleaners and homeowners alike for decades.

Supermarkets like Tesco and Sainsbury's offer budget-friendly window and glass cleaning products for as little as 85p, making this cleaning hack accessible to all.

By opting for newspapers over chemical cleaners and disposable paper towels, not only do you save money, but you also contribute to environmental sustainability.

The Vinegar Institute further raves about the efficacy of newspapers for window cleaning, citing their lint-free composition, which prevents streaks, and superior absorbency, ideal for wiping away residue.

They said: “Newspaper is also biodegradable which makes it an environmentally friendly choice compared to other types of cleaners that contain harsh chemicals that can be harmful to both humans and animals when released into the environment.

“Additionally, newspapers are readily available in most households so there’s no need to buy special products just for window cleaning purposes.”
