Cleaner’s ‘best hack’ to keep towels soft and fluffy - even removes nasty damp smells

Towels can quickly stiffen and gather nasty odours if they are not washed properly. Luckily, there is a way to deal with both of those issues fairly quickly.

may seem like a simple , but when it comes to washing certain items like towels, following the correct method is essential if you want them to last. 

While you can a towel by simply tossing it into the washing machine with your regular detergent, that’s not going to make it soft or smell fresh.

With the right washing technique, you can avoid scratchy towels that are covered in musty damp odours.

Taking to , @angelalanter shared a video detailing the “best towel washing ”.

Angela started the video by saying: “If your towels are stinky, kind of scratchy, not absorbing water, I’ve got the hack for you.”

The first step is to add the towels to the washing machine with a cup of distilled .

For softening your towels and removing smells, add the vinegar to the fabric softener dispenser compartment of the washing machine.

Run the cycle at a hot temperature - 60 degrees will be fine, it doesn’t need to be 90.

Then for the second cycle, add one cup of baking soda directly to the washing machine drum with the towels on a hot wash again with nothing else.

Angela said: “That’s it. Your towels will be like new. They will smell great and they’ll absorb again.”

@kelseyrandalls urged: “Don’t use fabric softener. It puts a waxy layer on your clothes. I don’t use fabric softener anymore just white vinegar and my clothes are so soft.”

One user was curious whether Angela added anything to her tumble dryer when drying the towels. She responded: “Nothing! The fabric softener and dryer sheets are the culprit for product build-up.”
