One everyday mistake people commonly make might be increasing the risk of spores multiplying in your bathroom. According to experts from Advanced Damp, the action could cause mould to grow in one day.

"One of the most common mistakes that lead to mould is how you handle wet towels," said the experts. "Hanging wet towels on a rail could start growing mould in just 12 hours."

Instead, you should make sure to hang your towels somewhere with lots of airflow. “When you’re finished using, dry towels quickly and hang them up in a place with plenty of air," the experts continued. "This simple move will help keep mould away."

Towels can also become susceptible to mould after they have been washed if you do not take adequate steps to ensure they are fully dry before storing them.

"You should also ensure that the towels are dry before you put them in the washing basket - otherwise, it could spread to other clothes and parts of your home,” said Advanced Damp.

The experts also emphasise the importance of good ventilation in bathrooms. Without it, mould is more likely to show up on your windows and walls.

Always make sure to use an extractor fan or open a window during your shower. "Not installing an exhaust fan or opening a window during and after showering can trap excess moisture in the air," said the expert team.

"Ensuring good ventilation may not help you reduce energy costs, but it keeps the indoor air quality healthy for everyone living there."
