Sky has confirmed plans to bring Apple TV+ to its Sky Q and Sky Glass platforms in the coming weeks. TV+ has remained one of the biggest absentees from Sky Q and Sky Glass, which boasts support for the likes of Netflix, Disney+, BBC iPlayer, All4, and Prime Video. But that's all about to change.

Sky has revealed that its upcoming Apple TV+ app, which will be available to all customers before the end of the year, will be deeply integrated into its software. Viewers will be able to search across the on-demand catalogue from Sky and Apple at the same time – so you won't need to buy something from the Sky Store that's already included as part of your monthly subscription to TV+. The same integration is already available on Sky Q with Netflix and Disney+. With Sky Glass, the search functionality has been massively upgraded – with Sky able to automatically pull from paired on-demand providers .

Glass is a custom-designed QLED TV from the team at Sky that combines everything you need to watch live and on-demand telly over Wi-Fi, a Dolby Atmos soundbar, hands-free voice control, and a 4K display. Prices start from £13 a month for the 43-inch panel, with the 55-inch model costing £17 a month, and the 65-inch 4K TV starting from £21 a month

Contract length: Up to 48 months | Upfront cost: £10

On both Sky Q and Sky Glass, shows and films from Apple TV+ will be recommended to viewers based on their tastes. Shows from Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+ already receive the same treatment.

The arrival of Apple TV+ on Sky Q and Sky Glass means millions more people will be able to access the growing library of original shows and exclusive movies. Unlike rivals like Netflix and Prime Video, which blend syndicated shows with original productions, the TV+ library is made up entirely of exclusive Apple-funded shows and films. As such, it didn't have quite the same breadth as rivals at launch. However, it has launched a number of successes.

Comfortably the most popular show on TV+ is Ted Lasso, which stars Jason Sudeikis as an American college football coach who is hired to coach an English soccer team. The series, which was recently renewed for its third season, has been nominated for a ridiculous 20 Primetime Emmy Awards. Another much-discussed Apple TV+ show is The Morning Show, which stars Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell as anchors on a popular breakfast news broadcast embroiled in a sexual misconduct scandal.

Award-winning documentaries, like Boys State, and animated films like Wolfwalkers round out the catalogue alongside, Slow Horses starring academy award winner Gary Oldman, The Essex Serpent with Claire Danes and Tom Hiddleston, plus science-fiction epic Foundation.

Dana Strong, Group Chief Executive, Sky said: “With the addition of Apple TV+ our customers can now enjoy phenomenal shows like The Morning ShowTrying and Ted Lasso, together with our own award-winning Sky Originals, and the best content and apps from our partners, all on Sky Glass, the streaming TV from Sky, or Sky Q, our market-leading Sky box.”

Interestingly, the arrival of Apple TV+ on Sky Q and Sky Glass marks a much deeper partnership between the iPhone manufacturer and the satellite firm. As well as the arrival of TV+ on its telly hardware, Sky Go will be coming to Apple TV set-top boxes for the first time next year. Customers who pay extra for Sky Go support, which lets viewers take their recordings on-the-road with smartphone and tablet apps, will now be able to sign in to watch live channels, on-demand shows and movies from an Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K box.

Not only that, but Sky-owned NOW is adding the ability for viewers to buy any NOW Membership via the iPhone, Apple TV or iPad app. According to Sky, this "will allow for a seamless purchasing experience providing access to the latest movies, critically acclaimed shows and biggest live sports including the new season of Sky Atlantic’s epic Succession."

Apple TV+ is also available within the Apple TV app, which is preinstalled on iPhones, iPad and Mac gadgets, as well as popular smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Sony, VIZIO, TCL and others, Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices, Chromecast with Google TV, PlayStation and Xbox gaming consoles, and at tv.apple.com.
