Meghan Markle tipped for 'brief return to UK' to support Harry at special anniversary

Meghan Markle hasn't returned to the United Kingdom since after the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022.

Meghan Markle could return to the UK for a "brief" stay later this year to support Prince Harry as he marks a special work anniversary, a royal expert has suggested.

The Duchess of Sussex has not been in the UK since September 2022, when the death of Queen Elizabeth II resulted in her and the Duke staying for the official period of mourning and her funeral.

Harry has since been back, most notably last month for a quick meeting with the King following his cancer diagnosis.

But royal commentator Jennie Bond suggested the Duchess could soon be returning to London to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the creation of the Invictus Games.

The Duke launched the sporting competition in 2014 and has remained closely involved in the organisation since.

Speaking to OK!, Bond suggested the couple are likely concerned about the reception Meghan would receive once she finally returns.

Their popularity has experienced significant ups and downs since they quit their institutional roles – but the Duchess's support has considerably plummeted since she joined the Royal Family.

Bond said: "I think that both of them would be nervous about the reception that Meghan would get in the UK. I think there is still residual affection for Harry, but I really don’t think the same can be said for his wife.

"However, the Invictus Games are something both feel very passionate about, so it could be that Meghan will decide off her own bat to make a brief return to the UK."

The expert, however, argued Harry is unlikely to put any pressure on Meghan and force her to return if she does not want to.

The royal commentator also noted the Duke himself has cast doubts about visiting with his family as he suggested changes to his security detail left them vulnerable to potential attacks.

Bond continued: "I very much doubt that Harry would ever put pressure on Meghan to do anything she doesn’t want to – especially coming to the UK when he himself has said he doesn’t feel his wife and children are safe here without an enhanced level of security, which has so recently been denied as an automatic right.

"Meghan is probably the one who wears the trousers in this relationship, and Harry, who adores her, would never want to compromise the happiness of their marriage by asking her to do something she is reluctant about."

The Duke last week saw his attempts to challenge the Government over the changes made to his security arrangements thrown out of court despite his concerns.
