Princess Kate apologises and takes blame for editing photo

A Photoshop expert has weighed in on exactly "how and why" edited the picture that was shared of her and her children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

On Sunday Kensington Palace released a new picture of Kate and the children to mark Mother's Day, with the photo supposedly being taken by .

However last night some picture agencies began pulling the image over fears it had been altered, with certain details not making sense, such as an issue with Charlotte's sleeve and many blurry spots in the picture.

Kate issued an apology for confusion, claiming she "occasionally experimented with editing" family shots, as she wrote on social media: "Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing.

"I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother's Day."

Photoshop expert Stephen Davies, who is often known as the 'Photoshop Guy', said he does not believe there is anything "deceptive" about the photo but thinks they just wanted the best family shot.

He told The Sun: "They wanted to get a smiling face on everyone. It is hard to get the perfect photo. They’ve probably taken two or three photos and blended them all together - but a couple of things have been overlooked."

Mr Davies added that AI could have been used and admitted that Charlotte's sleeve was definitely a "flaw" and that her skirt looked "strange".

Mr Davies continued: "That’s a common thing that they’ve blended photos together. I don’t think they’re doing anything deceptive on it - they just wanted the perfect photo and missed a few areas.

"It shows multiple images have been blended together - I do it every day for people when one of the children isn’t looking at the camera.

"The texture has gone from the [Prince Louis'] jumper - it almost looks like it could be AI. I use it all the time and I have to add the texture back in, it can only do certain resolution."

The image was the first social media image shared by Princess Kate in months, as she has been recovering from abdominal surgery out of the royal spotlight.

She underwent the operation on January 16 and was discharged almost two weeks later, and has been recuperating at home in Windsor ever since.

Kate is not expected back at work until after Easter, according to statements put out by Kensington Palace, and she did not attend the Commonwealth Day service this Monday.
