Prince Harry and Meghan's eviction fury as they 'thought Frogmore would always be there'

Prince Harry was left 'furious' and 'in tears' after he and Meghan Markle were evicted from Frogmore Cottage by his father King Charles, a royal expert claimed.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been slammed as "out of touch" by a royal expert, who suggested the couple believed Frogmore Cottage "would always be there for them".

The property was a wedding gift from Harry's grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, but the pair were evicted by King Charles last March following their fallout with the Royal Family.

Royal author Tom Quinn argued the Duke of Sussex would have been deeply hurt by his father's decision to reclaim the five-bedroom home.

Quinn said: "Harry and Meghan imagined Frogmore would always be there for them even if they came back to the UK for just a few weeks each year and even if they were no longer working royals."

The Duke's relationship with the King has been fraught since before he and Meghan announced their plans to step down from their institutional roles in 2020.

Harry detailed his difficult bond with his father and older brother Prince William in his memoir Spare, which was released two months before the eviction order was issued.

In a further blow to the relationship, Harry has recently made a significant change in his life as he switched his residential status from the UK to the US.

This change was retroactively applied to June 29, 2023 - the date Harry and Meghan officially left Frogmore Cottage.

According to Quinn, this date holds great significance for Harry and indicates how deeply he was affected by the King's decision to evict the Sussexes.

The expert told The Mirror: "At the time, few people realised what a slap in the face the eviction from Frogmore felt. For Harry it was the last straw.

"Harry was absolutely furious and in tears about being evicted from Frogmore he felt his father had no right to do it and that it was purely vindictive.

"Harry couldn't see that choosing to stop being a working royal would inevitably mean being deprived of his royal residence."

The author suggested Harry could have interpreted the decision as a cruel rejection a painful reminder of all that he felt when his father fought with his mother during their long drawn-out, painful divorce.

Quinn added: "Whenever Charles puts his foot down, it seems unfair to Harry who feels that after everything that has happened to him, he should always get whatever he wants whether that be security paid for by the British taxpayer or a luxurious UK home.

"For many Harry is just a poor little rich kid behaving like a spoiled brat, but Harry sees himself as the eternal victim."
