Prince William hosts garden party at Buckingham Palace

Prince William looked dapper in a suit as he led the Royal Family at the second Buckingham Palace Garden Party of the summer.

He hosted the party on behalf of the King and invited other young members of the Firm to accompany him, including Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, Peter Phillips and Zara and Mike Tindall.

The first party, traditionally referred to as the Sovereign's Garden Party, was hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla on Wednesday May 8.

Several additional garden parties have also been hosted at the Palace, including the star-studded Creative Industries party on May 15 and the Not Forgotten Association Annual garden party, hosted by Princess Anne, last Friday.

The Prince of Wales's attendance at today's event comes after Princess Kate's early childhood campaign was given a major boost by businesses.

A landmark report by the Royal Foundation Business Taskforce for Early Childhood found greater focus on the issue could generate £45billion a year for Britain.

Kate, who has stepped back from royal duties during chemotherapy, has been following the work of chief executives she convened last year to galvanise business action on the importance of the formative years of a child's development.

Christian Guy, executive director of the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, briefed Kate on the new report she has read, and said she was "excited" by the document.

"I know, having briefed the Princess on this, that she is enormously grateful to the members of the taskforce who have made such fantastic progress on this work," he said. "She feels passionately about the transformational impact of getting this right together, both for the current generation and for many more to come.

"I know that she is keen to encourage all businesses, no matter what their size or purpose, to join us on this journey and is looking forward to seeing momentum grow in the coming months."

Kensington Palace said early childhood continued to be a "huge priority" for Kate.

Although Kate received a briefing on the report, Kensington Palace said it is not a sign that she has returned to work.

There is no timetable on when she will resume royal duties, with an aide saying that it will only happen when doctors have given her the "green light" to do so.

In spite of the wet weather the guests looked delighted to be there as they huddled under umbrellas in their elegant attire.

Zara Tindall was dressed in a white button-down frock with half-length sleeves, which she teamed with a pink hat and matching high heels.

Princess Eugenie too also rocked a pale full-length gown while her older sister Princess Beatrice stood out in a striking reddish-pink hue.

The start of the Buckingham Palace garden parties marks the beginning of a packed summer schedule of events for the royals, including Trooping the Colour on June 15.
