‘Psychic’ alpaca predicts World Cup success for England but disappointment for Wales

England squad arrive at hotel in Qatar ahead of World Cup

A "psychic" alpaca has good news for England fans but Wales supporters won’t be happy, if his World Cup predictions come true. The mystic animal says the Three Lions will make it through to the knockout stage at this year’s tournament in Qatar.

But he says England will not have a completely easy ride in their group and will lose to Iran in the opener.

Sadly for Wales, Alfie the Alpaca thinks their World Cup dream will end with them crashing out of the group stage.

Keepers at Fairytale Farm in Oxfordshire decided to put Alfie’s fortune-telling abilities to the test because they say he is one of the ‘smarter and responsive alpacas’ at the zoo.

The 10-year-old alpaca made his choices – accompanied by fluffy friends Horace and Hagrid – by choosing between two separate feeding stations, covered in opposing flags.

England is in Group B and will face Wales, Iran and the USA.

Alfie is not certain whether England or the USA will top the group – with both countries finishing the group stages with two wins each.

He says Wales and Iran will not get through to the next stage.

Nick Laister, who looks after Alfie, said: “Alfie is one of our smarter and responsive alpacas on the farm who has an abundance of common sense, so if I was pushed to pick an animal to make the right decision, it’d be him."

He added: “Here’s hoping Alfie is wrong and both England and Wales can make it through the group stages.”

England will start their campaign for victory on Monday, taking on Iran at the Khalifa International Stadium.

They left their St George’s Park headquarters yesterday morning and jetted out to Doha from Birmingham on a plane called ‘Rain Bow’.

The rainbow is the symbol of LGBT+ pride so the plane’s name is seen as a symbol of defiance against the Qatari regime.

Gareth Southgate has hit out at FIFA saying it is ‘highly unlikely’ the team will just follow FIFA’s call to focus on football during the competition.

Speaking last week, he said: “We’re very strong on inclusivity. We understand the challenges that this tournament brings . . . the human rights challenges.

“We’ve always spoken about issues we think should be talked about, particularly ones we feel we can affect.”

And England skipper Harry Kane is one of several national captains who plan to participate in the ‘OneLove’ campaign during the tournament to oppose discrimination.
