An "infant" was among three people who have been rushed to A&E after a car allegedly crashed into them outside a hospital in Pembrokeshire this morning. The infant has been airlifted to Cardiff for treatment as the hospital warns of increasing pressure on its services.

The area has been cordoned off as officers investigate the cause of the incident.

Public access to the hospital is still available, reports WalesOnline.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesman said: "Officers are at the scene of an incident outside Withybush Hospital following a report of a car in collision with pedestrians at approximately 11.50am.

"A pedestrian, the driver of the car and a passenger have all been taken to hospital for treatment. There will be a police presence outside the hospital for a number of hours as officers investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision."

The force confirmed that an "infant" has been "airlifted to Cardiff" after the collision.

Police are also appealing to the public for witnesses or any other information as they launch their investigation.

The hospital confirmed it was still operating despite the collision - but was now operating under "increased pressure".

Hospital director Andrew Burns urged people to "only attend A&E if you have a life-threatening illness or serious injury."

He said: "Appropriate medical care is being given to those who were injured in the incident and we kindly ask people not to contact the hospital for more information at this time.

"Services continue to operate as normal at Withybush Hospital today. If you are attending for an outpatient appointment, you may experience some delay in parking while investigations are underway but this is expected to return to normal in due course."

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 11.52am to reports of a road traffic collision in the grounds of Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest.

"Ambulance crews already at the hospital took two patients into the Emergency Department, one of whom has been subsequently airlifted to Cardiff’s University Hospital of Wales."

The police have asked that anyone with information or dashcam footage that could help officers with their investigation is asked to report it to Dyfed-Powys Police, either online at https://bit.ly/DPPContactOnline, by emailing 101@dyfed-powys.police.uk, or by calling 101.
