Is there anything as glorious as a proper British roast dinner to lift your spirits?

Perhaps that’s why so many people recommended one to a US food reviewer saying that he should head for some traditional Sunday scran at a very popular restaurant chain - Toby Carvery.

But sadly TikToker Kalani Ghost Hunter did not have a great experience after he tucked into a beef dinner at one of the outlets - and shared his thoughts on a clip posted to his channel @kalanighosthunter that’s now been viewed 1.7m times.

He said: “I’m an American - this is my first time in the UK and from the comments I have received about this place this should change my life.”

But after he headed up to a carvery counter his hopes looked dashed as he said it “kind of looks a mess up there”.

Before tucking into his meal of beef, potatoes and Yorkshire pudding Kalani said: “I don’t have high hopes for this.”

The food reviewer revealed that it was a “really hard Yorkie pudding” that “might be the worst I’ve ever seen.”

He said: “Five out of ten. This is not good.”

“I’m not exaggerating - I’ve never made a roast in my entire life like this and I can make a better one at home. Who recommended this?” he added.

But those who recommended Toby Carvery seemed to be missing from the comments section below.

One poster called Sprayman said: “I told you not to go so many times.”

While Kl said: “I’ve never set foot in a Toby Carvery in my life and that looked exactly like I imagined it to be.”

But another commenter said that he’d just had a bad experience this time around.

Blackthorn said: “Toby Carvery is deffo hit or miss and sadly you’ve had it at a miss. When it’s all fresh it’s real good though.”

Express.co.uk has approached Toby Carvery for comment.

Kalani is not the only American adjusting to the way of life in the UK.

Helene Sula, a travel and lifestyle blogger who has moved from Texas to Oxford, explains the things that irk her the most about living here.

Amongst other bugbears she said: “Washing machines are in the kitchen. So while you’re cooking you get the scent of spaghetti bolognaise as well as wildflower meadow."
