Tourists defend UK's 'worst' seaside town as they claim it 'feels like Mexico'

Clacton-on-Sea, the largest town on the Essex coast, is full of life and home to an incredibly beautiful seaside resort.

A seaside town constantly on lists of the UK's "worst" has been defended by tourists as they compare it to Mexico thanks to its delightful seaside charm. This Essex town of Clacton-on-Sea carries life in abundance, offering a variety of leisurely activities such as a pleasure pier, amusement arcades, theatres, golf course, boardwalks, and water sports.

With something for every type of traveller, the bustling town centre proudly hosts recognised national brands, unique independent shops and even caters to the foodies amongst us.

Despite being named one of the "worst" seaside towns in Britain, tourists have been quick to praise it, with one Tripadvisor review complimenting the town, saying: "Just like Mexico. I've been there twice and I felt like I was back there again."

The seaside town of Clacton once basked in the glory of being a tourist hotspot, particularly from the 1950s through to the 1970s, with its economy still heavily reliant on entertainment and attracting retirees.

Clacton's pride and joy is undoubtedly its pier, brimming with traditional amusements such as slot machines and hook-a-duck, not to mention an aquarium showcasing exquisite sea creatures.

For those looking to explore, there's the option of an open-top bus tour offering a hop-on, hop-off experience at various appealing stops.

On the fringes of the town, Hasty's Adventure Farm presents an opportunity for children to interact with nature, featuring sheep, goats, chickens, and more, alongside go-karting and other child-friendly activities.

Additionally, Clacton airport hosts the annual Claction Airshow, making light aircraft a common sight in the skies above.

Just a stone's throw away from the town centre is Clacton Shopping Village, boasting a plethora of independent stores.
