A beautiful market town surrounded by nature reserves and parks is constantly named among the best places to live in the UK.

Tring in Hertfordshire is just a stone's throw away from Tring Park and Reservoirs as well as Wendover Woods and was recently named one of the best places to live by Country Life magazine.

But despite being surrounded by rolling countryside, the town is just an hour and a quarter away from London Euston Station making it perfect for commuters looking for a quieter home life.

And there is plenty to keep visitors entertained including the village's Natural History Museum, which was first opened by Lionel Walter, 2nd Baron Rothschild, as his private museum.

The town also has its own local museum explaining the history of Tring holding a wide variety of interesting pictures, objects and documents.

The town is home to a number of regular markets such as the Friday Charter Market, Tring Farmers Market and Tring Market Auctions. Tring also makes its Church Square available to hire for similar events.

Tring even caught the eye of famous writer Edward Lear, who wrote a poem about the town.

It reads: "There was an old person of Tring, who embellished his nose with a ring, he gazed at the moon, every evening in June, that ecstatic old person of Tring."

Some famous faces have called the town home in the past including banker Lord Rothschild, World Cup football referee Graham Poll and John Washington, the great-grandfather of first US president George Washington.

The average property in trendy Tring costs £802,552 according to Rightmove, making it even more expensive than London, which the property sale platform says has an average house price of £709,618.

Families looking to move to the area will be pleased to know the town is home to Tring School, a state secondary school and sixth form as well as four state junior schools.

Its High Street is packed with an array of quaint independent shops and a great choice of pubs and restaurants.
