A migrant jailed for stabbing his former partner to death with a meat skewer, and who had been living in the UK illegally for two decades, had attacked other women previously, it has emerged.

Obert Moyo, 46, from Bolton, was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court to life in prison with a minimum term of 27 years for murdering 35-year-old Perseverance Ncube.

And his victim’s sister has spoken of her anguish after it was revealed that he had committed other attacks - including one for which he was jailed.

Moyo, whose visa expired in the early 2000s, had been in the UK illegally for 20 years when he killed Perseverance Ncube, 25, also known as Percy, in the heart in front of her two children, aged 10 and 12, on November 10, 2023.

Moyo, who pleaded guilty, was convicted of harassing women in 2007 and 2007, the second of which he was handed a six-month prison sentence.

In 2013, he was jailed for 10 years with an extended licence for an attack on another former partner in Brighton in East Sussex.

When release he is understood to have been fitted with a tag instead of being deported.

Moyo began stalking Percy after the breakdown of their relationship. He attacked her after she began a new relationship after breaking into her home.

Ms Ncube’s sister, Christina Chiriseri, 28, told the Daily Mail: “I was very angry and upset because all of this tragedy could have been avoided if people had done their jobs properly.

“We all felt very let down by the Home Office and the people who should have made sure he was deported.”

She added: “I am reeling over everything that has happened. I still feel very angry. It was a short-term relationship and it cost my sister her life.”

A Home Office spokesman said: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with Ms Ncube’s family.

“We often deal with significant and complex challenges when seeking to return those who have no right to be in the UK to their country of origin or lawful place of return.

“The Government is doing everything possible to reduce legal challenges and to increase the numbers of FNOs [foreign national offenders] being removed.”

Speaking after Moyo’s conviction on April 30, Detective Chief Inspector Gina Brennand said: “In the months leading up to Percy’s death, she was stalked by Obert Moyo. He spent hours outside her home, often in the early hours of the morning.

“Police were unaware Percy was being stalked, and she may have not known herself, but we know this to be true from examining CCTV and his immigration electronic monitoring tag. He was, in fact, an illegal immigrant, denied asylum and on prison licence following release from a 14-year sentence for a serious assault on a previous partner.

"Moyo is a dangerous and violent man and would not accept his relationship with Percy was over. He broke into her home while she and her children, aged just 10 and 12 at the time, slept and attacked Percy in her bedroom. Her children rushed to their mum’s aid and bravely dragged Moyo off her.

“Moyo chased after Percy into the street and showed no mercy as he stabbed her in front of her children.”
