Feet are feeling the pinch
UP to 20 women a month are being referred to hospital because their feet have been crushed or deformed by tight-fitting fashion shoes, it was revealed yesterday.
The women, some just in their 30s, have had their feet permanently damaged by high heels and narrow pointed toes.
Treatment includes surgery to break the bones of their feet before re-setting and realigning them to allow them to walk again without pain.
Ben Clift, consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, said: “No one is suggesting women should never wear high heels, but they really should be kept for
special occasions.”
Fashion victims with painful deformed feet include Victoria Beckham, who has bunions on both feet after years of wearing narrow stilettos.
