PM warns of crime explosion

GORDON Brown will today warn that Britain could face a huge increase in robberies and burglaries because of the recession.

And the Prime Minister will admit that knife attacks and organised crime are already on the rise.

His warning will come in his first major speech on crime, to be made in central London.

In the past, Mr Brown has been severely criticised for failing to discuss the issue.

Unveiling Labour’s new crime strategy, the Prime Minister will say: “We face new kinds of crime, especially knife crime, organised crime, e-crime and identity theft.”

Mr Brown is to attempt to update Labour’s discredited “tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime” slogan.
