Gillian is back on track after X years

AS she opens in a major stage role in London’s West End, Gillian Anderson has been moaning that the role that made her name- agent Dana Scully in TV’s The X Files- has been a burden in her acting career.

The London-based actress, who opened last night in Ibsen’s A Doll’s House at the Donmar Warehouse, never realised the science-fiction show would be such a hit and says it initially prevented her from focusing on her first loves, theatre and film.

“I wasn’t intending to do a popular television series. I was intending to do film and theatre,” insists Gillian, 40. “I got waylaid a little. Since that’s over, I’ve got back to doing what I originally intended to do.”

Anderson adds: “While I was doing it, I imagined it wouldn’t possibly typecast me but it does to a certain degree.”

You don’t seem to be doing too badly, Gillian!
