AMY'S AIMING TO GET BACK ON TRACK

FIT: Amy Winehouse is shaping up ahead of the release of her new album

Sunday May 17,2009

By Charlotte Heathcote

TROUBLED Amy Winehouse hopes to overcome her demons in time to play a series of summer gigs in Britain.

The singer is getting fit by doing gymnastics and horse riding at her base on the Caribbean island of St Lucia.

“She intends to play some summer festivals, particularly the V Festival because her manager runs it,” said her spokesman.

The singer may also perform at the 50th anniversary concert of her label, Island Records.

Amy, 25, has another incentive to get back on track. She is eager to tour her second album Back To Black in America. The planned shows were cancelled after she took a drug overdose.

However, her inner circle are concerned about her continuing battle with the bottle.

A source said: “She’s knocked the drugs on the head but replaced them with alcohol.”

It’s reported that Amy’s new CD could be ready for release in six weeks.

She has hired a recording studio and did some work on the album as part of rehearsals for last weekend’s ill-fated concert at the St Lucia Jazz Festival.

The concert ended prematurely, supposedly for technical reasons, but onlookers said Amy was drinking heavily and singing badly.

At one point she told the crowd: “Sorry, I’m bored.”

Amy is said to be held back by the high expectations of her fans after Back to Black sold 11 million copies.

“She doesn’t know if she deserves all that attention,” said the source.
